TCT Rally - Brooksville, Florida - February 2013

Got to Sertoma Youth Ranch on Wednesday afternoon and shortly after setting up Bill & Julie pulled in.  They set up next to us and we walked around the park a little to see what is going on.  Later we drove into Dade City, just 12 miles south of the campground to meet up with Lisa and have dinner at a Mexican Restaurant.  Met Forrest and his wife Jerry at the same place and they joined us for dinner.

Had a great week visiting with Bill & Julie as well as the other members of Tin Can Tourists. We do not get to see them very often anymore; saw a lot of each other when our kids were growing up, but now they are all grown up and living their own lives. Met Lisa for dinner in Dade City the first night we arrived; the rest of the week events were planned by the TCT, including dinner and a band on Friday night. Went into Dade City a few times, visiting antique shops and an old hardware store that had everything one could think of, and very old stuff as well.

Talked and talked as though there was no separation between us - that's how it is with good friends - you can just talk as though there has never been any separation. Had a really good time.

When we got back to the trailer Jim had set up the little TV outside and I tried to play the two DVDs that I had redone from VHS tapes that Julie had done for me back when the kids were real little.  I had never played the DVDs and I guess something did not go right during the conversion process and the DVDs were not watchable.  They kept freezing and then did not go any further.  So I put in the DVD "Roam Sweet Home" which has a short clip featuring Jack & Marge Culp.

Sheep Herder Wagon

Ernest Issac Harkness purchased the wagon in 1912 from a dealer in Dillon, Montana. The sheep wagon was originally purchased because the Forest Service banned all cattle on the Beaver head National in 1910, and the owner had to become a sheep rancher. This sheep wagon was in constant use until 1988. It had been in the Harkness family until May 2007 when it was purchased by Harry Driggers.

Attending a Tin Can Tourist Rally is really a lot of fun. We usually have 100 or more RVs that attend the rally. On Saturday, most of the people open up their trailers to the public, who come enmasse to look at the various trailers and enjoy the day. Many of the trailers are vintage and the owners "dress" them up with vintage appliances and furnishings.

Tin Can Tourists has a rally every February at the Sertoma Youth Ranch in Brooksville, Florida. Check the local news for the dates and when the RVs will be open for viewing.
