Our Travels During 2024

January 6, 2024. Well, another year with Biden in office; our country is quickly degrading into Sodom and Gamora -- pedophilia; thousands of illegal immigrants invading our country and Biden refuses to close the border and Mayorkas lies to the American people all the time. The House is talking about impeachment, which needs to happen, but who knows.

Texas Civil War Museum, Fort Worth, Texas

I had heard about the Texas Civil War Museum from some friends at Whitney. They mentioned that the museum was closing its doors for good on October 31. Since we were going to be in the area for Jim's radiation treatment, we went to visit on Thursday. I asked why it was closing and was told that the owner was very sick and the state of Texas did not want anything to do with the museum or the artifacts. That's such a shame as the whole museum was dedicated to Texas' history during the civil war. All of the artifacts were originals.

A Tribute to Our Pets

Little did I know when I started this blog about the pets in our lives, that we would lose another so soon. Hayley was almost 12 years old and left us on May 5, 2020. Her story is at the bottom of the page....

When Jim and I got together in 1977 we had two animals ~ Gandalf, his German Shepherd (1970-1982) and my cat, Blossom (1970-1978). We lived on a 1929 42' Elco Yacht in Charleston, South Carolina, and of course they lived on it with us. It was amazing that Blossom took to the boat so well. She never fell in, and I guess she went onto land to hunt. As it was such a long time ago, I really cannot recall what she did. I know Gandalf went with Jim everywhere. I think he even took her to work the him, but she may have stayed home with me.

Dead Man's Hole Historical Landmark, Marble Falls, Texas

We stopped in Marble Falls on our way back to Glen Rose for a couple of days so we could get our grocery shopping done on Monday and be back at Tres Rios on Tuesday. While searching for Walmart I happened to see an icon for Dead Man's Hole Historical Landmark and decided to stop there before shopping.

Bandera Natural History Museum, Bandera, Texas

Bandera is a small town a short drive northwest of San Antonio; it is considered the Texas Cowboy Capital. It has a few RV resorts, lots of small, individually owned shops, and restaurants. We went to visit on Tuesday and went to Bandera Gun Works (where I bought myself a gun), The Cowboy Store (where Jim got himself a new Cowboy Hat), and then had lunch at Trail Boss Steak & Grill

La Sal del Rey, Edinburg, Texas

I was told about La Sal del Rey, which is just 6 miles from our campground, so Jim and I decided to take a drive out there this afternoon. The first place we stopped at was right off of Highway 186, but it was 1-1/2 miles one way from the parking lot to the lake, and Jim did not want to walk that far. There is another entrance off of Brushline Road, with two parking lots -- one out by the road and another one closer to the boardwalk and lake, which is where we drove to. It was much easier for us to walk down this short trail than the other trailhead.
