"Bamahenge" and Other Oddities, Elberta, Alabama

After lunching at Flora-Bama restaurant with our friend Lavon Greathouse, we took the back way to see another quirky site I found on Roadside America. Flora-Bama is most famous for its location, being right on the border of Florida and Alabama, but is located in Florida as the liquor laws are more favorable than Alabama. It's down on Perdido Key Drive, right next to the Gulf. Our drive home took us to Bamahenge, located along the road heading to Barber Marina in Elberta.

Look closely and you can see Hayley

It was built by Mark Cline back in 2012.  The monoliths stand 21 feet tall and 104 feet across, essentially identical in size to the original Stonehenge in England. It's correctly aligned with the summer solstice; the point of sunrise is over the center of three lintels on the outer markers. There are actually only four different stone shapes, but with clever flipping and repositioning, all of them look different.

The next stop was to see the dinosaurs made to size along the same road.  I missed one, so was only able to get pictures of three of them. They were also built by Mark Cline. They hang out in the trees and are difficult to stop, as you can see because I never did find the brontosaurus.

T-Rex

Triceratops

Stegosaurus

The last oddity on this journey was the "Lady in the Lake."  Unfortunately, it being winter she was not in the lake, but safely stored in the boat yard. She was also built by Mark Cline in 2012.

This is what she looked like when we went to see her today.  The above picture is what she looks like when safely in the water.
