Abita Springs RV Resort, Abita Springs, Louisiana

Abita Springs RV Resort is the third resort we have visited that is part of Ocean Canyon Resorts.  The City of Abita Springs is located north of Covington, Louisiana and hosts the Abita Brewery, the Abita Cafe, the Abita Mystery House, and many other museums in the area. They also have the Tammany Trace, a bike and walking trail that heads to Covington.  Historic Abita Springs has a tourist park, called the Pitcher Plant trail. One section goes to Covington, and then another section travels south all the way to Lake Pontchartrain.

The thick pine forests, pure air, mineral waters, and many services at Abita Springs RV Resort ensure visitors an enjoyable vacation. The sites are all gravel and I think that's because it rains so much and is wet that the water needs someplace to go.  There are a few lakes surrounding it, ponds and Abita Creek which after last nights rain is over flowing its banks.  The clubhouse and pool area are really nice; there is a large main area with tables and a TV with doors going out to the pool area; upstairs there is a pool table and an exercise room.

Abita Springs Resort is next to Shady Lake where you can ride a paddle boat, or fish, and if you want to bring your own little boat, you can put that in. They have an out door pool, a billiard table up stairs in the clubhouse, along with a large area with tables, TV for get togethers. They are not the largest resort, but always seem to have openings.

There are ducks all over the place, and of course Lucy would love to chase them if I let her.

Abita's roads are all gravel as are most of the RV sites. But they are all level and easy to get into.

They have a small pond that has ducks in it with a short trail that goes around the pond. We usually get a site that sits along with pond. Lucy sits out there just waiting for the ducks to come ashore so she can chase them.

There is a trail around the lake then into the woods where I walk the dogs and let them loose so they get some running in. The trails really do not go anywhere so we just walk out there and then walk back along the same route. When it has been raining, everything floods. I have to wear my Sloggers to keep my feet dry.

I also think there is a beaver that lives in the lake as I found this wood pile that looks like it's a beaver home.

There are a couple of ponds back there that are fenced in, and I have seen a couple of otter in them.

And if you don't want to walk the trails, they do have a large dog park near the playground for your convenience.

Covington is due west of Abita Springs and hosts a few grocery stores, and other stores. You will also find the largest statute of Ronald Reagan, and the Smith HJ & Sons General Store and Museum.  If you need bicycle work done, be sure to visit Brooks Bike Shop. There is a multitude of things to do around the area, so you will never be lacking for something to do or visit.
