North Carolina Winter Vacation

On December 26, 2010 we drove up to Barb Mars’ house. We got there about 5:30pm after waiting for the weather to get better. Atlanta had a snow/ice storm with freezing temps and accidents even on the interstates. Pulled into Weaverville in a snow blizzard and a foot of snow. I stopped at the shopping center at the end of her street; Jim locked the wheels into 4 wheel drive and drove the rest of the way down Dula Springs Road in 4-wheel drive. Lots of snow – trailer would never have made it.

Bill bought us all tickets for the Biltmore Christmas where we went on Monday – cold and windy. Good day to be inside. I don't have any pictures of our trip to the Biltmore.

Barb put us out on the back porch because we took Hayley and she was not getting along very well with the other dogs. Barb has two and Marjorie was baby sitting two Boston terriers. Woody brought his standard poodle which of course was not banished but able to stay in the house. So Hayley spent most of the four days on the back porch and the two nights we slept there were absolutely freezing. The other two nights we went upstairs to sleep.

Took a few walks up the hill. There was lot of snow.

Also took a trip to Tractor Supply and just visited. Went out Wednesday to do some geocaching while Bill & Julie went to have lunch with Barb at work. While we were out with the first geocache Bob Baskin showed up while we were walking back to the car. We then went to downtown Weaverville and had tea and coffee with everyone. From there Jim and I went to do another geocache and then met everyone back at the house.

Josh and Karen were supposed to come over one Wednesday but they had car trouble an so they stayed at his house and came to Barb’s Thursday morning for brunch. Barb was at work; Marjorie in bed; and the Mars clan left for home around noon.

We exchanged Christmas presents on the back porch then packed up the vehicles and drove to Waynesville to visit for a couple of hours.

Phil proposed to JoAnn and she accepted. She has a beautiful ring. Do not know when the wedding will be.

Hayley had a great time seeing Maverick and Kayla again and they played in the backyard. We stayed a couple of hours in Waynesville visiting, then left there about 3:30pm and got home at 6:30pm. Construction is over and US 23 is a two lane highway practically the whole way down to I-985.
